Pilates

Pilates focuses on improving core strength and muscular imbalances, which in turn has a positive impact on our overall health and wellbeing. Just like Yoga, the benefits include improved flexibility, posture, balance and significantly reduces the chance of injury in comparison to other traditional and/or strenuous forms of exercise.

Pilates workouts are mostly mat based and are suitable for both beginners and those at more advanced levels. Initially, Joseph Pilates devised 34 fundamental exercises aimed at the complete coordination of the mind, body, and spirit. These moves have been developed over the years, but the six key principles have remained and are followed by all certified instructors. They encompass, control, concentration, powerhouse-centering, breathing, precision, and flow.

Yoga & Meditation

Yoga was developed up to 5,000 years ago in India as a comprehensive system for wellbeing on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Today, many millions of people use various aspects of Yoga to help raise their quality of life in such diverse areas as fitness, stress relief, wellness, vitality, mental clarity, healing, peace of mind and spiritual growth. Yoga is a system, not of beliefs, but of techniques and guidance for enriched living.

As in any field, some aspects of Yoga are too subtle to be learned from books or lectures; they must be acquired through experience. Hence Yoga’s time-honored emphasis on the student-teacher relationship, in which the teacher helps the student develop a practice that brings deeper understanding through personal experience. Since the individual experience of Yoga is quite personal and may differ for each practitioner, there are a wide variety of approaches to its practice. All approaches to Yoga, however, are intended to promote some aspect(s) of wellbeing.

Nutrition Program

The Cal Courts Nutrition Coaching Program for healthy adults (no significant past medical history or existing medical conditions). Our mission is to help make it simple for you to apply the science of nutrition and practice the art of healthy living so you can cultivate life-long habits. Our program can include a nutrition assessment or personalized plan and is not an option for people with any existing medical conditions that require a customized therapeutic diet, such as thyroid conditions, high blood pressure, digestive disorders, high cholesterol, diabetes, etc. We practice evidence-based nutrition science first and foremost while uniquely combining behavior change, habit change, and the psychology of creating new habits in your life. Creating new habits that evolve to becoming a lifestyle takes patience, practice, support, and trustworthy professional guidance.

Muscle Activation Technique

Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) is a cutting edge therapy developed in the world of Professional Sports. MAT certification is now required for all trainers with the Seattle Mariners and has been an industry secret for NFL athletes like Peyton Manning and Frank Gore. A MAT session starts with a Range of Motion Exam to identify problems. We then use a combination of Muscle Testing, Palpation and Isometric Exercise to help your muscles and nervous system reach their full potential. The fun part is progressing to a unique training program that is tailored to your body’s specific needs and goals.

I’ve been going to Cal Courts off and on since I was a child, so, about 15 years. They’ve always been helpful and supportive, have a great variety of classes, and I’ve never felt discriminated against for any reason. The desk people always remember you, even after I return to school down south for months, and have a great weight room for the size. Nice to be able to go to a clean and reliable gym when I come home.
